Safety Tips for Items with Lithium-Ion Batteries


We often come in contact with items that use lithium-ion batteries in our daily life. Whether it’s a laptops or computers, mobile phones, camera, UPS etc. We rely on lithium-ion batteries for many different purposes. But Unfortunately for some consumers, when a lithium battery explodes, it can cause a fire that generates temperatures up to 1000° F and can cause severe 3rd-degree burns. 1. Only use batteries that are designed for that particular device you want to power up. Check the manual or the product’s official website if you’re not sure what kind of batteries to use.

2. Insert the batteries in the Correct way. Many people accidentally place batteries the wrong way, which can cause damage.

3. Avoid overheating batteries, never overcharge your device; unplug the device once it is fully charged.

4. Avoid charging your device on flammable materials, such as the bed, or on paper.

5. Never keep Li-ion batteries near heat sources or in high temperatures, such as direct sunlight because it can cause damage.

6. Don’t allow batteries to get wet or be exposed to water.

7. Do not carry or store the batteries together with hairpins, or other metal objects.

8. Only transport the items with lithium-ion batteries in containers that are specially designed for them.
9. Do not disassemble or modify the battery in any way. Modifying your electronic significantly increases the risk of explosion.
10. To properly dispose of Li-ion batteries, take them to a battery recycling location or contact your local waste management service providers. Put batteries in a sealed metal container before recycling them.
